ONE ON ONE: PERMANENT MAKEUP COURSE
HYPERREALISM: NANO BROWS aka MACHINE STROKES
Introduction:
Hello and welcome to my private, one on one, permanent makeup course. If you are reading this then I assume you are interested in learning the art of permanent makeup or expanding on your existing skill set. Thank you for considering my course, I assure you that this course is well laid out and offers a vast amount of practical, as well as, essential theoretical knowledge.
Below there is quite a bit of information on why I chose to develop and offer this course. There is also an in depth outline of what you can expect to learn if you choose to register. Please take some time to read through this information before you ask any questions or register.
I have done my best to be very thorough and detailed both in the outline and the course itself.
Background and vision:
I have always been fascinated by natural beauty. I believe we need to bring more natural beauty back into the world. A world which in my opinion has become overrun by an overwhelming amount of false values and for lack of better terms, “fake beauty.”
As permanent makeup artists I feel we need to accentuate our clients naturally beautiful features with the goal of enhancing, not changing their looks. We are not trying to change the person, we are merely bringing forward their natural features. We need to help our clients feel more comfortable and confident in their own bodies.
We achieve this by providing our clients with a choice of how they want to look day to day. For example, a woman must have a choice of how she appears day to day based on her mood or the tasks she needs to accomplish. Sometimes we want to feel natural, sometimes we want to feel fancy, sometimes we want to feel sexy, and sometimes we just want to lay in bed depressed and eat ice cream... lol.
We want to provide our clients with the flexibility to tailor their look as they see fit. We don’t want to force them to have to do their makeup each day to appear beautiful. When a person has dark, exaggerated and fake looking PMU eyebrows they are forced to do the rest of their makeup in order to suit the bold appearance of their brows. If they don’t do their makeup then their other facial features look altered or dull and in a sense their freedom is taken away. They feel like they can’t just have a lazy day and go out to run some errands in sweat pants with no make up. They feel they can’t leave home without putting on their “face”. They feel trapped. I feel this current trend of dark and exaggerated features is not sustainable or healthy. This is not the proper way to create PMU.
Yes, everyone has a choice and some people do like that dramatic look. However, lets be realistic, the majority of women likely want natural looking eyebrows. Natural beauty will always be in trend and if you want to darken up your features you can always add some makeup on those occasions. It should not be the opposite way around. Like in many aspects in life, it’s easy to add something but difficult to remove it... just think back to that ice cream... lol.
My experience:
After taking countless courses in various areas of makeup and permanent makeup I’ve spent nearly $50,000 educating myself. I have learned quite a few things about not just PMU, but also teaching and learning PMU.
I have taken amazing courses and I have taken terrible courses, however, they all taught me something. Some taught me techniques and what to do, while others taught me the exact opposite, what never to do! I feel the thousands of hours I have spent learning and practising have helped me come up with the best way to teach PMU, specifically, hyperrealism.
There is no way better way to learn this trade then by watching another artist perform their craft. This style of learning applies to many careers, such as, healthcare, teaching, and mechanics, to list just a few. As we grew up many of us were taught things like, “if you want to get better at something surround yourself by people that are better at it then you.” All that means is that if you want to learn a skill its best to learn it from people who have more experience in it then you or people who have different types of experience in the given field then you. Just like an experienced mechanic can learn tricks from another experienced mechanic a PMU artist can learn from other PMU artists.
Instead of always competing against each other I feel the PMU world could benefit from some positive community building. Sharing knowledge is one of the best ways to evolve. Think of mathematics and how one concept is based off the understanding of another. Instead of using our energy to compete we could get much further by working together and developing our art form as a whole.
Online education:
Online education is convenient but has many limitations. We all know that theory will only take us so far. If you really want to learn and develop a skill you need hands on, practical experience. No amount of reading will replace hands on experience. The truth is, it takes hundreds of hours to get proficient at something like PMU and thousands of hours to master it. Even the most experienced artists continue to learn each day. Theory only has value when it can be applied in a practical way. That is why this course is laid out the way it is. We will go over essential theory and then we will apply it practically, in the real world.
I know I am trying to cram a lot into this course description but I want you all to know that when you take a course with me you get my full attention. Every aspect is analyzed and thought out. We need to take this seriously, we are dealing with peoples faces. The face is an area of the body the majority of tattoo artists won’t touch, even very experienced ones. The face is the area in which all of our work will be done, even when we are new and inexperienced artists. We need to respect this. You can easily cover up a bad tattoo on your thigh or lower back but the same cannot be said about ones face.
What is PMU?
Our trade is referred to as permanent makeup or PMU, however, I feel that it is a misstatement. Truthfully, it should be semi-permanent makeup. Semi-permanent means the makeup will fade over time. When I first started doing microblading many years ago, artists promised their clients that their brows would fade away over 18 months. In reality, what we see in the majority of microblading is work that doesn’t fade away, it turns grey or other colours. I’ve seen many clients with microblading that is over 4 years where the pigments are changing colours and the brows are blurry and migrating. PMU is not supposed to look heavy, it’s supposed to look natural. When have you ever seen natural eyebrows that are heavy and look like they were drawn on with a marker? Never.
In this course I am going to teach you how to achieve balanced pigment application at the proper depth to create natural, airy and soft semi-permanent makeup. Brows that will actually last between 18-24 months and naturally fade away if not touched up.
How would you want to look?
Think about a person who doesn't have any brow hair, how do you think they want their brows to look? I’d argue that the answer in the majority of cases would be, natural. They want to have natural, hair like looking eyebrows. They don’t want dark, heavy, exaggerated, marker looking brows. They don’t want people to know they don’t have any natural brows. They want a hyperrealistic natural looking set of brows so real no one even knows they are PMU!
Are you ready?
If you are still here reading it means you are ready to bring your skills to the next level! This won’t be easy, there is no instant gratification here. It will take persistence and dedication. I will help you develop the skills you need to provide your clients with natural looking, hyperrealistic eyebrows.
Course breakdown:
The permanent make up industry is evolving and I feel that there is an increased interest in natural lifestyles and natural beauty. Many people are starting to gravitate back towards a more simple style of beauty. I feel Hyperrealism will be the next big trend in North America and across the world. This is already starting in Europe. I have learned first hand from the European masters who pioneered what we refer to as Hyperrealism. I have also taught international courses on Hyperrealism with these masters. This is why I feel you should learn hyperrealism with me, no one else can offer you the experience I have in this area!
This course is best suited towards:
• Artists who are currently practicing Nano Brows but would like to further develop their skill set.
• Artists who currently practice powder brows, lip blush, PMU eyeliner and lash line enhancement
• Artists who are heavily experienced in microblading and want to start transitioning towards Hyperrealism
A small group option is available. Do you run a business in the PMU industry? I can come to your location and teach 3-4 of your current PMU artists on site. The course will be laid out in a nearly identical fashion, it will just be at your location, with your team. A group discount will be applied. Groups sizes must be between 3-4 artists.
After educating over 300 students I have identified these common areas of weakness:
• Its takes you a long time to draw the shape of the brows
• You don't know how to pre-draw properly or consistently
• You don't know how to use facial templates to pre-draw
• You don’t “feel” the skin
• Your first pass is not visible or poorly visible
• Your strokes are too thick
• Your client’s skin bleeds during machine work
• Your client feels pain during the first pass
• Your PMU brows don't look natural
• The procedure takes too long to complete
• You’re scared to go too deep
• Your PMU brows don't have volume
• Your PMU brows both look different and lack symmetry
• Your pigment choice doesn't suit your client
• Your lines are uneven
• You have a hard time applying the pigment and have poor retention
• Your PMU pigments appear cold in colour after healing
• Your strokes blur out and lose definition after healing
If you struggle with any of the above concepts you are on the right track coming here. Regardless of how experienced you are there is always room for improvement. I will help you step up your game by sharing my knowledge and experience with you. I will share my tips and tricks with you, all the little secrets that will help you do a better job.
