MORE INFORMATION ON MICROBLADING VS NANO BROWS BELOW
Nano brows are a form of semi permanent make up performed with a professional tattoo machine and a single nano needle.
This tiny nano needle is where the common name of this procedure originates from, Nano Brows.
The procedure involves recreating individual hair like strokes. This is what gives the finished brows a hyperrealistic and natural appearance.
Using a specialized high precision tattoo machine designed specifically for this procedure ensures that ink is only injected into the basal layer of the epidermis, which creates the semi-permanent aspect of the makeup.
The nano needle moves in and out at a high rate of speed creating a series of tiny and delicate dots that combine to make up a line or “machine stroke” which resembles a natural brow hair.
Using a high end tattoo machine ensures the ink is injected at the perfect depth every time.
This provides a uniform appearance and prevents ink migration or scaring.
The needle is incredibly small and as a result the procedure is painless, does not cause any bleeding, nor does it cause any scabbing.
The healing process is essentially non-existent and results are instant.
For example, you could get your brows done today and go to a business meeting tomorrow. No one would even know your brows were just done, actually, most people wouldn't even realize they are not your natural brows!
What is the difference between Microblading and Nano Brows?
Prior to transitioning to Nano Brows I specialized in microblading for 3 years. My opinions are based on first hand knowledge of both techniques.
Microblading is a technique performed using a very fine hand held blade, similar to a scalpel.
A series of cuts are made to the skin in an attempt to resemble an eyebrow.
Ink is applied into the cuts.
The hope is that the ink is absorbed by only the tissues directly on each side of the cut and at the base of the cut.
The goal is to only cut to the basal level of the skin which is in between the epidermis and the dermis, this is nearly impossible to achieve consistently using a crude hand held blade.
When the cut is too shallow the pigment will not take and there will be poor retention.
However, generally the cuts are too deep which turns what is supposed to be semi-permanent makeup into permanent makeup... or a very crude tattoo.
When you see someone with microblading that is a few years old and the ink is blue, grey, purple, pink or red, as well as, faded, blurry or “marker” like then its safe to assume the artist cut too deep.
The above all leads to skin trauma and a drawn out healing process which can last up to 21 days and in extreme cases longer.
The healing process also has an impact on your daily routines and life, many people don’t feel comfortable leaving home with wounds on their face.
Many of my past clients had to take a day or even a few off because they felt uncomfortable to showing up at work with scabs over their eyes.
Imagine you cut your finger with the knife while preparing dinner. What would happen?
You would bleed.
You would be in pain.
A scab would form.
That scab could fall off prematurely leading to more bleeding and the wound reopening.
This scab falling off could cause an increased risk of scaring and extend healing time.
The scab would eventually fall off permanently leaving behind immature pink tissue.
This tissue is sensitive to irritants and light.
After some time that tissue would fully heal to resemble the surrounding tissue if the procedure was done correctly.
You would hope the healed areas would not have any unappealing scaring.
Scar tissue does not hold ink.
Scars are permanent.
If you do develop scaring, no procedure can truly remove 100% of a scar.
With microblading scar tissue of some degree is guaranteed.
This procedure is often marketed as a series of “shallow cuts,” however, it all depends on the skill level of the artist.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of room for error and it is difficult to guarantee that all cuts are the correct depth.
The main risk of microblading even when done correctly is scarring.
Aside from scarring any cut has the potential to get infected.
Infection increases healing time.
Infection causes reduced ink retention.
Infection causes pigment migration.
Infection almost always leads to permanent scarring and a poor final outcome.
Infection post microblading is more common then you think, however, no artist posts or talks about their botched jobs publicly.
Have you ever wondered why most artists don’t post their healed microblading work?
There are good reasons you can’t find it on their profiles, portfolios, social media accounts or websites, no one wants to show badly healed brows.
Many artists blame their clients for infections, or poor healing even though it is generally their fault.
Microblading looks the best as soon as the procedure is done and it’s downhill from there.
Generally speaking, the older a microblading job is the worse it looks, it’s the downfall of the procedure.
